Season Notes:

10 Seasons Ago: "Climbing the Ladder" 2006-2007.... Head Coach Ernest Peterson and father / son assistant coaches Gary and Brett Klonecki led the boys up one more rung of the ladder. The team went 2 and 2 ending up second in the Dairyland Conference (3-8 Overall).

This was a very balanced team with solid wrestlers spread out in the line up. In the lighter weights Luke Schultz, Caleb Tamke and Derrek McAnallen (19-15) held the line. In the middle and upper weights Chad Stellpflug, Ben Kissinger, Chad Risberg and Wes Dubiel (#215) were spark plugs for the team. The Norse were bolstered by some solid first year senior athletes, in Adam Holen, Aaron Sherry, and Dan Franklin. They did a great job holding down key weight classes. A tough loss for the Norse this season was in Jesse Taylor. Jesse broke his nose earlier in the year. He came back later in the season using the wrestling mask but that injury kept hm from performing at his usual level of success.

In great individual efforts Chad Stellpflug (2nd at regionals), Wes Dubiel (34-7), and Chad Risberg (2nd at regionals. Excellent 2nd half of the season) fought to the top becoming sectional qualifiers. Wes Dubiel was his weight class's regional and sectional champ becoming Coach Peterson's first state qualifier, as well as ending a ten season state drought for the Norsemen (Last state qualifier being Lee Meinerz).

Other notable individual season efforts were in Derrek McAnallen and Wes Dubiel as All-Conference selections. They also broke the all-time season team takedown record of the era. Wes Dubiel set a new all-time season team pin record of 28 at the time.

This team is the first group of wrestlers that were under Coach Peterson for their entire high school careers. They established the bridge from Whitehall's great wrestling past to their current great wrestling future. These were a tough group of hard nosed young men.
